Rotary District 9940 Conference 2017

 

 

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS  - before, during and after the conference

                                                - organised by Rotary Clubs of Taranaki.

These are to be pre-booked, and if required, pre-paid.

Bookings will be accepted up to one week before the conference , that is up to Friday, 14th of April.

Where payment is required a small booking fee will be levied by the on-line company “Eventbrite”. 

In those cases where "Register Now" only is required no fee will be payable.

ANZAC Day 2017 will be on Tuesday, 25th April. Delegates are encouraged to stay an extra night and to use the Monday, the 24th, as an additional day during which further to experience and explore Taranaki.

FRIDAY the 21st :  Golf at Ngamotu Golf Club. 

Host Club : Pukekura Breakfast. Cost $30.00 / person plus booking fee.

Play for the District Golf Trophy.  Start :10.00 am ; Finish : 4.00 pm.

Food and drinks available at the venue for purchase. Rotarians are to provide their own transport to and from the golf club.

The Conference Morning Session will finish at 12.30 pm.  Packed lunches will be available.

Activities / trips will run from 1.00 pm returning to the Plymouth Hotel by 4.45 pm at the latest.

Minibuses will be available to transport  delegates and partners to and from the conference venue at the Plymouth Hotel and the New Plymouth CBD.

Stone Sculpture :  

Alan Axten of Upper Dudley Road - a member of Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society. Andesite stone is turned into intricate sculptures.

Local Rotarians will provide car transport to and from Chaddy’s Charters.

Assemble at Puke Ariki at 2.00 pm. ( Shuttle Bus to the CBD will be available .)

Visit the historic buildings and imagine the trials and triumphs experienced by early settlers in this guided walk of New Plymouth.

Historic New Plymouth comes alive. Walking Tour will last about two hours.

Fishing Trips – a great West Coast fishing experience.

Host Club : New Plymouth North. Three boats taking four persons each, plus a captain, from Port Taranaki.

Departing from the Plymouth Hotel at 1.15 pm and returning to the boat ramp by 4.15pm. Local Rotarians will provide transport from the Plymouth Hotel to the boat ramp and for the return. 

Suggested donation of $30 / person to cover bait and ice. Please pay cash on the day

Port Taranaki, the Breakwater and the Walkway.

Host Club : New Plymouth West. Must be booked by the Friday evening, the 21st.

Visit the Breakwater and walk back in own time from the Port to the “Wind Wand” along the Coastal Walkway in the City ( 3  kms ).

Cars, provided by local Rotarians, will depart from the Plymouth Hotel to go the Port at :

 7.00 am   Eventbrite - Port Taranaki, the Breakwater and the walkway.

Pukeiti 

An internationally-recognised garden and plant collection. One of Taranaki’s iconic visitor attractions.

Two guided tours of the garden available :

Donation at Pukeiti. Self-service coffee available on site. Local Rotarians will provide car transport to and from the garden.

Pukekura Park.

Host Club : New Plymouth North.

Cost including guided tour, plus afternoon tea at “Tea House on the Lake”,  $10.00 / person plus booking fee.                                            

Pukekura Park is a Garden of National Significance covering 52 Ha in the heart of New Plymouth. It contains a diverse range of native and exotic plants.  “Golf Cart” transport is available in the park.

Assemble at 2.00pm at the “Tea House on the Lake”.

Up to two groups of twenty persons / group. One group will have the guided walking tour first, followed with the refreshments at 3.00pm; the other group will have the afternoon tea first and then, at 3.00pm, take the guided walking tour.

ESCORTED TOUR D  : Aotuhia Station

Host Club : Stratford. Cost $25.00 / person plus booking fee.

Visit the Aotuhia Station. it is situated 65 km. east of Stratford and is one of the largest farms in Taranaki. The scenery, isolation and the history of the early pioneers is unique to this station. Drive through one of the longest tunnels in the region. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reach into Taranaki’s hinterland and to hear about this station’s amazing history dating back to the late 1800s.

Travel by 12-seater minibus departing from War Memorial Car park in Stratford at 10.00 am, returning  to Stratford at around 3.00 pm.

Take-away food will be able to be purchased en-route. Tea / coffee will be available at the station’s woolshed.

Host Club : New Plymouth. Cost $40:00 per head 

Visit to Important Historical Site (4 hours on site)

Depart Plymouth Hotel 8:30 am by Coach, returing to the hotel by 2:30 pm.

Rotarians may make their own way to Parihaka to be on site at 9:30 am. (same cost $40:00 per head).

Visit highlights include Powhiri; Kai Whakanoa; Story of Parihaka; Film-"Tatarakahi, the children of Parihaka";walk around Parihaka; Poroaki and then depart.

The ”Big Blue River Boat” - local People with local knowledge.

Experience the West Coast Wilderness of the Mokau River and hear the stories of the river. See also website www.mokauriver.co.nz.

Trip : Six Hours, including a three-hour boat trip. Light refreshments and commentary provided.

There will be opportunity to buy take-away food prior to reaching Mokau. Transport by coach – subject to a minimum of 20 persons.

Paritutu Rock, Centennial  Drive :

A short climb up a volcanic remnant. 100 metres straight up in fifteen minutes ?  You will need a head for heights, good knees and a warm jacket if the wind is blowing. “Paritutu” is a great little climb over uneven rocks with chain holds in parts.

The summit is flat and a good vantage point. Worth the climb.
